Nightly Builds are non stable XBMC builds that come from the bleeding edge code out of the XBMC GIT.
In contrast to the stable builds you don't have to wait for the release cycle in order to benefit from new features or fixes that made it into XBMC. These builds are updated nightly by the buildbot and are only for the brave users that do not fear bugs or crashes.
1 Where can I get a nightly build?
Basically there are different ways of getting a nightly build on your machine. Remember, THESE BUILDS OFTEN DO NOT WORK! They are mostly used for development. If you want the latest version sure to work, this is not the place for you! Easiest way for the following operating systems is just to download the builds from the XBMC mirror:
- Nightly Builds for Windows
- Nightly Builds for Mac OS X
- Nightly Builds for Ubuntu
- Nightly Builds for iOS - iPad, iPhone, iPod touch
- Nightly Builds for iOS - Apple TV 2 (black)
Also you can compile these builds yourself. See the appropriate Wiki article or Read Me for doing this:
Also there are some unstable ppa's that are not official. You might try google for how to find and use them.
2 Special notes about nightly builds
As nightly builds are bleeding edge code you might find a bug here and there. In order to get rid of this bugs, it's important that these will be reported. Please check the wiki-article on HOW-TO:Submit a proper bug report.
2.2 Feature request
If you think you have a feature that should be added to a nightly build in order to appear in the next stable, you can make a feature request on trac. See HOW-TO:Submit an official feature request.
