History of Kodi

Template:Cleanup-date Xbox Media Player, or XBMP for short, was the predecessor to Xbox Media Center (XBMC). With a audio/video-player-core based on MPlayer, it allowed owners of a modified Xbox to display pictures and movie files, as well as play music files from the Xboxs built-in harddrive, CDs, DVDs or SMB shares. Due to copyright issues, XBMP is illegal to distribute in its compiled form, but since XBMP is open-source, users are free to modify and compile the source code using their own methods.
