Pre-election

At the 2012 XBMC DevCon it was decided to have the first formal Foundation Board of Directors election. Ned Scott was chosen as voting administrator.

Nomination notice

2012-10-01 19:30 "Nomination thread and vote notice for the Foundation Board of Directors election", as written by Ned Scott

This is the official nomination thread and vote notice for the Foundation Board of Directors election.

Per the 2012 XBMC DevCon, I will be your voting administrator. As such, I will decline any nomination for the Board in order to avoid a conflict of interest.

This is for foundation members only. If anyone is not a foundation member and thinks they should be, then apply ASAP for membership by e-mailing natethomas. Nate will then add you to the spreadsheet so that you get a vote. Only those on the spreadsheet will be able to participate in the final vote.

All foundation members will then rank the nominees, and the top ranked five choices will become members of the Board. Of those five, the three who got the most votes will be elected for a term of two years, and the remaining two will be elected for a term of one year.

Any Foundation member may nominate another Foundation member or themselves, and there does not appear to be a limit on nominations, so you may nominate more than one person. All those nominated must confirm their nomination by accepting it for them to be placed on the ballot (in other words, you are only placed on the ballot if you wish to be). Anyone who nominates themselves will obviously also be confirming their nomination. If anyone wishes to nominate someone in private, you may do so by e-mailing me directly at [email protected] and I will add the nominated person's name to this thread on your behalf, which will be noted as an anonymous nomination.

The XBMC Foundation Bylaws (a copy can be found at http://wiki.xbmc.org/images/a/a0/ByLaws.pdf ) require a minimum of ten days notice of an election/major decision for Foundation members. This will serve as our nomination period. Nominations will end on October 16th, 2012 at 11:59pm UTC. (Nomination period was later extended to the 18th to verify Foundation members' e-mail addresses.)

Assuming there are no complications, the ballot will bet set up and sent out as soon as possible after the nominations are complete.

The voting service will be Condorcet Internet Voting Service ( http://www.cs.cornell.edu/w8/~andru/civs ) and all Foundation members will receive a voting key by e-mail as soon as the ballot is set up and ready to accept votes. The voting system is a ranking system, so all nominees will be ranked on a scale (such as 1 to 10) of how you feel if they should serve on the Foundation Board. All votes are anonymous and no record of what e-mail address/voting key voted for who is kept. No one, including myself, will be able to see who voted for who.

Voting will end on October 31st, 2012 at 11:59pm UTC. The new board will be notified and will be in effect immediately.

In the event of a tie, it will be resolved with the existing board members discussing with the tied nominees. Tied nominees that do not go on the board may be nominated as officers of the Foundation, for example.

Because the voting keys are generated by e-mail address, it is very important that we confirm correct e-mail addresses for all Foundation members. Feel free to e-mail, PM, or start a new thread if you wish to confirm your e-mail address. If I don't hear from someone, their last known e-mail address will be used (most likely the one used to notify you that you are a Foundation member).

While not required, feel free to include or not include any additional information on why you feel a nominee (including yourself, if you choose) would be a good candidate. All those nominated should become familiar with what is expected of them by reading the wiki page XBMC Foundation and the Foundation ByLaws.

All results, including who was nominated, will be publicly posted for transparency. Your individual votes will be kept private.

Voting

Voting started on October 18th 2012 and ended October 31st 2012 using the Condorcet Internet Voting Service with a ranking scale, http://www.cs.cornell.edu/w8/~andru/civs

Results

42 out of 48 Foundation members voted. The top five ranked become the board of directors effective November 1st, 2012. To offset this first election, so that the entire board does not change each time, the top three (jmarshall, Davilla, theuni) will be elected for a term of two years, and the remaining two (natethomas, elupus) will be elected for a term of one year. The next election will be in 2013 and will be for two Board positions.
