Phones and tablets

  • While tablet and phones will work with XBMC, the main aim right now is set-top boxes. Expect touch/skin/etc support to improve with time.

  • Subject to major change
  • Right now XBMC for Android will work on Android 2.3 and up. This may or may not change in the future.
  • tegra2 is not supported, and likely won't have support in the final version.

Will this really do 1080 and everything the desktop can do?

  • Yes! This is a full port of XBMC!
  • Hardware video decoding support is very limited right now, so most devices will have to use software decoding. Expect support for hardware decoding to improve with time.

XBMC for Android version

  • The current version of XBMC for Android is based on pre-Frodo (version 12). This is an unstable development version. The first stable version of XBMC for Android will be released with XBMC v12 (Frodo) and will be based on the same code as XBMC for all the other supported platforms.


Will XBMC run on this or that device?

  • Right now the only real way to know is to actually try it out. The developers have only so many Android devices to test on, and there's so many more out there. Requirements are also still evolving at this time.
  • The main aim of XBMC for Android is to run on inexpensive Android powered set-top boxes.
