| |||
:During the time between XBMC v12 and v13, Team XBMC discussed many things regarding app stores and official submissions. Before those discussions could even be concluded something happened to an unofficial version of XBMC, "XBMC on OUYA", that was in the OUYA store. The companies that owned audio formats, such as AC3 and DTS, want everyone who uses those formats to lay a licenses to do anything with that audio, even just playing it back. One of these companies forced OUYA to modify their version to remove the ability to '''software decode''' AC3 and DTS if they could not pay a license for every user who wished to install it from their store.
:Well, crap. | |||
:It seems this is also happening to a lot of apps on various "app stores". Because of this, Team XBMC is considering their options, and how we can expose XBMC to these app stores without getting in a sticky situation, but without having to remove features or ever charge money for XBMC (since we would never charge money for XBMC in the first place).
:For the time being, you can always sideload the full version of XBMC from the apk downloads from xbmc.org. See [[HOW-TO:Install XBMC for Android]] for details.
| |||
