Add-ons are packages that add features and functions not normally included with XBMC. Add-ons are developed by people on Team XBMC and third-parties. XBMC has a growing list of community driven add-ons for online content like YouTube, Hulu, Grooveshark, Pandora Radio, as well as skins (themes) and more available from a common official repository, while still enabling third-party developers to also host their own unofficial repositories for add-ons that any user can choose to add themselves if they like.

Nuvola apps kthememgr.png Add-on manager
The Add-on manager's purpose is to manage the various add-ons to the XBMC application. It can be browsed like any other XBMC section and the various installed/uninstalled, enabled/disabled add-ons. In the Add-on manager you can also change the settings for auto update, notifications and foreign filter by bringing up the slide in submenu (press left to show/hide). The Add-on manager is not where you go to run add-ons, but only to install and configure them.

2 Add-on settings

Various add-ons also have settings that can be accessed by going to the Add-on manager: Settings -> Add-ons -> Enabled add-ons -> the add-on category -> the add-on title -> Configure

You can also access add-on settings for some add-ons by bringing up the contextual menu press guide on remote or C or  Win on a keyboard while using that add-on.

3 How-to's

HOW-TO:Change skins
Many of us have been tempted by the allure of XBMC’s beauty. There are some excellent skin designers out there who have gone to great lengths to create and share beautiful ways of viewing and navigating our media collections. As default, XBMC comes with the excellent skin Confluence, but there are plenty more to choose from.
HOW-TO:Install add-ons
The basic steps for installing any given add-on in XBMC.
HOW-TO:Install an Add-on from a zip file
How to install an add-on that is not in the XBMC.org repository using an add-on zip file.
HOW-TO:Setup subtitle services
Starting in XBMC v13 "Gotham" subtitles are now built into XBMC, and instead of downloading the subtitle download add-on, you install specific subtitle services.
